Taking it's name from a French word meaning "beautiful mountain", Belmont County is part of the Ohio River Valley basin and Ohio's Appalachian region.

Barkcamp State Park
Encompassing 1,232 acres, of which 117 is water, Barkcamp State Park has a lot of opportunity.  The well-stocked lake is for electric motors only and has a ramp and dock.  Public hunting is available in designated areas and the wildlife is abundant.  There are tons of family activities available here as well.  For information call (740) 484-4064.

Barnesville Reservoir Wildlife Area / Memorial Park

Located in the Southwestern part of the county, there are three reservoirs, and around the shores of them you can find mature upland hardwood forests that provide food and homes to many woodland creatures. The largest of the three reservoirs is Slope Creek. Every spring the Ohio Division of Wildlife stocks Rainbow Trout, making it a popular early season fishing spot. These reservoirs are also great places to view the Canada goose.  113 acres, 13 of which is water, with boat ramp and dock at the Memorial Park.  Reservoirs are shore fishing.  Web link

Egypt Valley Wildlife Area       Web link (.pdf)
Egypt Valley is a 14,300 acres wildlife area surrounding Piedmont Lake Park. Located just north of I-70, Egypt Valley is a reclaimed strip mine that offers hiking, pond fishing, and hunting. The area is considered by many to be haunted by a 13 year-old girl who was murdered in 1869.

Piedmont Lake

Piedmont Lake in Freeport consists of 2,270 acres of water and 4,416 acres of land. Piedmont Marina offers docking, boat rental, boat sales, fuel, fishing and boating supplies, and a motel. Over 80 campsites maintained by the marina are available. Catfish, walleye, crappie, bass, perch, and saugeye are common in the lake making it a popular place to fish.  Record muskie have been caught here too.  Boats are limited to 10HP motors.  Public Hunting areas are on site too. 

Pike Island Lock Dam
Ohio river fishing, power boats.  Caution must be observed in tail waters.  Approx 2 acres accessible from site.   412-644-6874

Powhatan Point Marina
Ohio river fishing, at the Belmont County / Monroe County, Ohio / West Virginia border.  Power and sail boats, boat ramp & dock.  Provides access to 5,844 acres of water.  Accessible via SR7   614-795-4201
